Beloved Australian producer Craig Porteils has passed away.

The Sydney-based songwriter and guitarist, who collaborated with the likes of international stars such as Cher, Billy Idol, Gun N Roses and more throughout his career, died on the weekend following a battle with cancer.

Porteils began his career in LA in the late '80s, working on the likes of Guns N Roses’ Knockin On Heaven’s Door, Billy Idol’s Rock The Cradle Of Love, Cher’s If I Could Turn Back Time, Fleetwood Mac’s Behind The Mask, Ozzy Ozbourne’s No More Tears and more.

He also recorded film scores for Parenthood (Steve Martin), Frankie & Johnny (Al Pacino) and Cry Baby (Johnny Depp) before returning to Australia in 1996 to produce multiple albums for Adam Brand and Diesel, as well as working with Darren Hayes, Miami Horror, Guy Sebastian, Deni Hines, Joel Turner and stacks more.

Porteils is also credited with composing Eurovision Song Contest track This Is Out Night for Greek entry Sakis Rouvos in 2009. The song ended up placing seventh and went on to be a hit throughout Europe, topping the Greek Singles Chart.

Last month, a GoFundMe was set up, raising funds for medical expenses. On Saturday, Porteils’ family confirmed his passing.

“It is with a heavy heart and great sadness, that we inform you that our darling brother, Craig passed away peacefully today,” reads a statement on the GoFundMe.

“He was loved by all who knew him for his kindness, compassion and love of life. He was the best. We are so thankful you for your generosity. Craig was truly grateful for your contribution.

“The funds raised will be used for outstanding medical expenses and the funeral costs. Craig was self employed and preferred to 'live in the moment' not plan ahead. For this reason we truly value your donation and any excess funds will be donated to cancer research, so that others my not find themselves in the same position.

“We adore you Craig and will miss you every minute of every day. You will always be on our hearts. Continue making heavenly music.”
