Madlib Biography

Otis Jackson, in hip-hop circles, known by the stage name Madlib, was born in a family of musicians, which played a big role in the rapper's career not only in terms of talent but also his desire to learn new styles creating music in completely different sounds. Otis's life began in the city of Oxnard, which is located on the west coast in California. It was in Oxnard, in the early 90s, that his first-team "Lootpack" was created, which interested rapper Peanut Butter Wolf, who at that time owned the new label "Stones Throw Records." The guys found a common language and signed a contract with the release of their first studio album, Soundpieces: Da Antidote.

Quasimoto

Most interestingly, Madlib's first solo album, was released by a fictional character named Quasimoto and was called The Unseen. The essence of the project was that Madlib put a pitch on his voice to make it childish. By the way, Quasimoto was a bong-shaped creature used to smoke marijuana.

Yesterday's Universe

Madlib continues to work on fictional characters, and subsequently, the Yesterdays New Quintet team is formed, which also consists of fictional musicians. On behalf of YNQ, Madlib released more than one album, and as the characters invented in this collective grow, he gives them a more expanded title, Yesterday's Universe. Many listeners still do not suspect that the player does not play the whole collective performing nu-jazz, but only the music of one talented person who is used to putting his heart and soul into every melody and cut sample.

Jaylib and Madvillain

Later, Madlib released a couple of albums with remixes, one of which contained remixes for the tracks of the Blue Note label. In 2003, new projects were born: "Jaylib" - with the late beatmaker J Dilla and "Madvillain" - with a masked man nicknamed MF Doom. Both albums were very successful and sold well.

The Return of Quasimoto

In 2005, the yellow bong came back - Quasimoto with the album "The Further Adventures of Lord Quas" which received good reviews, which is not surprising.

Real-name releases

In the spring of 2006, Madlib decides to leave the projects and take up creative work on his real behalf by releasing the Beat Konducta Vol 1-2: Movie Scenes instrumental. In the same year, Madlib decided to please the audience for the new year and released the album "Liberation" together with Talib Kweli. "Liberation" was really like a present from Santa since the first week it was free to download.

In the summer of 2007, a second instrumental from our beat master appeared, titled "Beat Konducta Vol 3-4: Beat Konducta In India", and a month later, Percee P presented an album that was produced entirely by Madlib. Single tracks followed, and there were also rumors about the recording of "Madvillainy 2", but the rumors remained rumors. Instead of the album, we heard only one new track, which included in the collection of the label. The later release of Madvillainy 2: The Madlib Remix appeared, but it only contained remixes of the first Madvillainy.

Madlib released the third instrumental release in 2009. "Beat Konducta Vol. 5-6: A Tribute To ..." contained 42 tracks.

Madlib launched the Madlib Invazion Recording Office and released a series of Madlib Medicine Show records containing 13 CDs and a couple of vinyls. This followed by several more albums, among which was joint work.
